Pool Heatpumps
A pool heatpump uses less energy than either an electric or gas heater. Rather than heating the pool water like a stove, a heatpump captures warm air from outside and transports it to the pool. This process is more efficient than the work done by traditional heaters, because the warmth used to heat the pool is not necessarily manufactured. It's absorbed from the atmosphere, which, of course, is free.
If you have a pool heatpump, the water temperature will not fluctuate significantly after a cool summer night or a few consecutive days of rain. Heatpumps maintain pool temperature, and so you will not have to wait for several consecutive days of sun for a pool to regain its warmth. Heatpumps come with either thermostats or more advanced keyboard controls, giving people the ability to select the temperature they like.
Choosing the Right Pool Heatpump As a general rule, a pool heatpump should have a BTU rating of at least three times the number of gallons in your pool. The Tropi-Cal T65, for example, has 55,000 BTU, making it appropriate for a 17,000 gallon pool. If you own a 40,000 gallon inground pool, on the other hand, the Tropi-Cal T135, which has 126,000 BTU, would be more appropriate.
